The crane and catwalk access is on the next floor down. The parts and stock up here seem to go on forever. Its dripping from the ceiling in a few places and Its too dark to prevent it from landing on my hat. The floor is buckled like in the locker room but much harder to see...... Its rust and mold and machine parts and insulation and paint falling off of the walls and ceiling...
Going down...there is a bathroom before the next floor down.
For a minute my flashlight fails and I have to take my best guess where I'm aiming the camera...with the camera flash I notice things I haven't seen before.
doesn't smell like a bathroom anymore....the mold in here smells different.. These antique toilets would been cool new... super low to the ground though
and the radiator right next to the loo....that would have been nice for Michigan winters...
The top floor must have been the last to be vacated before the elevators broke down. I wasted time trying to get a good picture of the Detroit skyline and missed the way the sun sets on the one inch deep "reflecting pool"
The harmonica sounds pretty rightous right here...I can harmonize with my echo..but I don't like to breath deep too long....so I put my mask back on...safety first
Somebody close that window....your letting the trees in.....
Behind the red doors are stairwells. In the winter there is wind coming down the stairs. Right now the air is still and damp...I imagine how bright this hallway once looked but looking down to the basement ...the smell tells every fiber of my being its a bad idea...
so upstairs first...no smoking in stairways...but while filling up the oil tank is ok

This is an old centrifuge. My predecessors ("chip spinners")would have shoveled or craned in machining waste(metal filings mixed with oil used to cool the cutting tools) then spun and separated the oil from the metal "chips" ....I called them filing for the longest time... now I have names for different types of chips. coils, springs, filings, needles, nettles, curlyques, powder, fine powder, and the worst thing you could ever have to shovel in your life...Cement! cement happens when fine powder gets compacted over time and becomes like solid steel.
